I installed the latest security update last nite, and as soon as the update was finished, i clicked on the restart button. as soon as i did that, i got a kernel panic that froze my computer. (the one where the screen turns grey and you get the white box in the middle telling you to restart the comp in four different languages)

now at this point i had to restart by pushing ctrl + appe + powerbutton. i went back to system update and made sure the update went ok and it appears to be ok, but will this have any negative effect on the comp?

It shouldn't. The installer was finished when you clicked 'restart', although it may not have finished cleaning up some old files.

To reinstall, you'll just need to delete the receipt in the Library/Receipts folder. It's called SecurityUpd2003-03-24.pkg or something. Delete that file and run Software update again and the security update will be available to you again...

I installed the update yesterday and had a Kernel Panic this morning when I woke my machine.

Only the second one I've ever had in almost a year of owning this mac.
