I just got my 17 PB yesterday. Started loading up software today. Everything seemed to go fine. Until.....

I copied data from my PC onto a CD as "data". I can't figure how to get the data off the CD.

In particular, I used my Quicken PC data as the backup. I installed Quicken 2003 for MAC. I was trying to bring the data from my PC to the Quicken Machine. It is years of financial records. Can this be done?

Second question. How do you create folders in MAC? I want to download pix, word documents, spreadsheets, etc. It is all on the CD but I can't figure out how to create files. Does MAC have an explorer function?

1) Put the disc in the drive. Open the Finder. Click on your DATA cd. You should see your contents. Click and drag it to where ever you want it copied to (Probably to your home folder).

2) Your PC data will import into Quicken on the Mac without a problem. Choose export from your PC. Save it to CD. Import it on the Mac.

3) From the Finder, either choose File->New Folder or Open Apple-Shift-N is the key combination.

for quicken 2003 for mac to read the pc data, you first have to export the file to a .qif from the windows version....then the mac version will import it. (there's more detail in the quicken 2003 manual which comes as a .pdf file.....)

the mac version of windows explorer is the "finder" and creating folders is quite simple....either from the finder's file menu select "new folder" or use the key combination command (apple key) + shift + N

have fun with the new powerbook.....wish i had one!

Probable would be a good idea for them to pick up "The Visual Quick Start Guide for 10.2"

They might also want to pick a two button mouse or trackball.

I did the exact same thing when I bought my iBook, back in September 2001. I was very lucky in that OS X 10.1 came out soon thereafter. Otherwise, had I had to use OS 9 for much longer, I would have been very disappointed.
