Hi,

At my school network you can use your own laptop computer to log onto the network (I have only ever seen one other Apple computer, iBook Camshell (or what ever it is called, cant rember)), but you need to log on using telnet. I tried this and was not seccusevul.

It asks you to (win 95 help sheet):
type telnet blahblahblah.edu 259
and then enter your password and username

I am pretty frietend of Unix, I must say when I tried to install stuff I can sometimes get them to compile and then I get kernal errrors .

I am not good at asking questions (don't want to seem like a n00b, (looks at subject )) and can never figure out how to un-install stuff like BitchX or what not.

Open a terminal window: (Terminal.app is in /Applications/Utilities just in case you haven't run into it before). Then just enter:

telnet blahblahblah.edu 259

and then enter your password and username.

Should be as easy as that.

Cheers,
Paul

The reason it would not work is because they gave me the wrong address!!!!

I went up and asked the Tech support ppl and they gave me a sheet and said this is it. When I went and sat down it didn't work. Someone told me that they had changed the telnet address and just hadden't bothered to tell me!

Must be because of my PowerBook
