PC cd-r's working on the mac?

hey all, i'm getting a new powerbook soon ("switcher"). and i have some cd-rs full of digital photographs that i've burned on a PC. i'm just wondering if PC burned cds generally work fine with the mac. thanks.

Yeah, you won't have any problems. The filenames might be truncated to the DOS format..if that's the case you'll have to rename them and add the proper extension.

There is one format that doesn't read properly which is directCD. You can however get an OS9 extension called joliet or something that will let u read it.

The directCD format is evil. Even other PeeCees don't read it unless they have the directCD reader.
We get them all the time from customers, just evil.

I have some dodgy chinese clip art CDs which only mount on OS9.

Some burning programs do not properly encode unclosed multi-session CDs. OS X is not very forgiving with these CDs and will fail to mount them. This is similar to how IE lets web programmers write pages which display properly but aren't technically to spec.
Until OS X can read the bungled formats, the only solution is to not try to leave discs open for future (burning) sessions. The toast titanium equivalent to this is 'Write Disc' instead of 'Write Session' Communicating this to a PC user with burning software you've never used can be quite... interesting.
