Has anyone had any problems with the modem after updating the os to their latest revision? I can only seem to get maybe 1 min. of connection time and then it disconnects. I know it is not the phone line because my windows computer can connect without a problem. Just curious if anyone else seems to have a problem. Plus is there a website that provides hacks to make the modem in the ibook more efficient?
Thanks

Quite a few people have reported the same problem after updating to 10.2.4. And when it makes it into the Apple Knowledge Base (see here , you know it's an officially sanctioned bug
I'm still holding off on 10.2.4 for this, as well as other reasons.

Thanks for the response. I should have went there first but guess was blinded by my frustration. Anyhow, I deselected the function to correct errors and allow compression and this seemed to fix the problem.
Thanks again.

be aware however by deselecting the option it tells you to, it is going to slow down your modem like you wont believe. others on the apple boards have tried changing the modem to "imac internal modem" and state that i has worked and solved the problem. just a F.Y.I.

I am having the exact same problem on a Dual 867 Powermac...
I have just moved house to the country and am without Cable or Broadband as I'm too far from an exchange, so I only have a dial up... I also work from home...
I have tried all the possible 'fixes'.. none of them work for me, and I have no setting for an 'iMac internal modem' with it being a Powermac and all.
All my work apps are long migrated to OS X... but I can only connect to the net in OS 9. Hmmm. I guess I am officially Fscked.
I can't reinstall OS X 10.2 as I have a logic board problem on the Mac (Due to be fixed by Apple next week.),and I am pretty scared of losing crucial data... (I have no effective way of backing up 36 gig tonight...!)
I am so pissed about this, and I am going to lose money from tomorrow....

Take out the Hard Drive before bringing the unit for repair. Then your data is safe (ish). Burn CDs burn CDs. You can never backup your work too often.
Of course many "defective Logic boards" turn out to be "bad software". So having the unit repaired without drive in reduces the chances the issues will be resolved
