Hey I'm gona be writing a paper for my english class it only has to be around three pages. But anyway I'm doing a critical examination of our school's buying practices... I think we have one IT guy... and he's a jerk anyway his step daughter hates him... anyway, but basically the school's systems all have Word, Windows, Publsiher, Excel, Power Point, Front Page, IE and that's about it. The school never has any alternatives to office stuff, they won't even let students use Hotmail for people like me who don't have floppy drives!

Anyway, so I'm gona take a pro open source pro linux pro OS X stance. But I was just wondering if any of you guys could gimmie any articles and stats and stuff, I'm gona be installing OOo on our PC today and all but yeah... it'd be really helpful if you guys could gimmie any info

Hey, stop complaining. In the old days I had to go to the library (I will spare you the 10 miles in the snow barefeet lie), look up things in the card catalog and then photo copy or hand take my notes.

You on the other hand have the web access and more importantly, GOOGLE!. So go do your own damn research. Sheesh.

My step children love me too.
Beyond that, Open Source is not yet ready for education, nor will it ever be.

Instead of getting bogged down in the platform war, why don't you focus on the fundamental differences of open source vs. closed source. That seems to be what your headed towards.

I also think you've chosen far too broad a subject for such a short paper AND, insulting the IT guy and saying that macs are better than PC's because you think so will most surely get you an F.

Do your own research, you'll learn a lot more-

I'm not planning on insulting the IT guy. I'm just planning on pointing out that there are free Alternatives to both windows and office and there are also better altneratives to PCs.

just to clarify I wasn't trying to be rude, although I generally do find the comments about spelling of some to people to be rather rude. And no I didn't spell check that generally my spelling's not so bad, it's just some words that screw me up generally because they're not pronounced how they're spelt and I have a very hard time remembering which words are spelt funny and which arn't... english sucks...

My spelling is crap to, but its not much effort to spell check your sig.

Safari lets you spell check your posts, its easy!

I don't mind that your sig has a bad spelling, I was only referring to it because you were talking about writing as essay and I though it was quite ironic.

Don't feel bad, Im sure you are a really nice person deep down.

Be happy and take that hat off your computer.

school and comp. geekness don't mix too well, if you need an advice. I've tried it once, and I would not retry it.

People don't give a **** basically. They really don't.

I started not to care about the whole Apple VS M$ VS open source thing about 6 months ago.

Now, I'm just a user, and a programmer, and I can say that I don't really care if Apple succeeds or not, as long as it does not go under 5% of the market or so. I'd prefer the community to stay as it is right now, really.

It's just stupid to be a fan of a company like that. Live your life.

It's almost impossible to "take" MS away from the normal users, it's everywhere now. People love Microsoft. People don't really care about Apple, people want cheap things that work. Period...

I know it's kinda unfair. At my school, we're MS only. Yes i have to hand in my HW in Word Format, yes we use frontpage and PowerPoint. But it's not like it frustrates anybody else than me in the school.. understand what i'm saying? I'm saying that you're a rebel without a cause. No offense.

I'm just tired of being a mac zealot/evangelist or anything. Wanna buy a mac? fine. Wanna buy a PC? Fine? I don't give a damn anymore, as long as people are happy with it, which seems to be the case, overall.

endrant.

I needed a topic and I picked something I knew they'd never take me seriously on... I would like apple to at least get to a 10% market share... basically my problem is that my parents pay taxes... but schools tottaly waste the money that they don't even have to waste! That should be going to something like paying a teacher's salary or something! I'm part of the Christian group at our school and we plan tons of fun events (they acctually are fun they're not lame like most school groups... paritally because I refuse to be a part of it if it's gona be lame heh) and if we had the cash that they use for word licences then we wouldn't even ahve to charge admission for things!

Heck forget that, our graphics program can only buy like three new computers a year in a course where they have like 30 students, they still have 133Mhz Power Macs in there! They should take some of the money they throw for Windows Licences and give it to the graphics dept!
