Is there a way to set font smoothing prefs for Java applications?

I'll give you an example (although a dumb one). When I play the Yahoo online game "Word Racer", ever since Jaguar the letters were smoothed to such a point (and/or the font was bad) that you could not easily read the letters. However, after the Java 1.4.1 upgrade, everything looked great.

BUT, when I got a new computer and installed Java 1.4.1, the fonts looked like they used to. Anyone know what's going on and/or how to fix it?
