Ive been playing with KDE in XDarwin since it was still only in the unstable tree... AFAIK your problem is caused by running it with X11 whic is still not entirely motif-hint friendly among other things.
Or somethin could just be FUBAR.

Works fine for me. Did you install the SDK with X11.app? Try using CVS in Fink to install KDE.

I've got KDE 3.1 running fine in X11. Took like 2 days to compile though.

Fink, its the app of kings. You need the Dec 2002 Devtools to complile one of KDE's dependencies though.

To make myself look like more of a n00b.
1. With Fink it helps you install binarys right?
- have they been pre-compiled?
- How do you uninstall stuff once you got it compiled and installed (i once got bitchx running long ago on another computer but couldn't figure out how to get it off)
2. Is there a way to compile KDE with out Fink?
- I have the developer tools that came with my 12" powerbook
3. I will proberly never be able to live any of this down, but I find it better to ask questions then waste hours apon hours of my time banging my head againts the table trying to figure something out
- So you can un-install KDE if you install it right.
- Once you get KDE running can you just run linux applications
OH showing my true n00bness to *nix.

Fink doesn't install pre-compiled apps, another program call dselect is a front end to apt-get, that allows you to get pre-compiled apps.
KDE 3.1 doesn't come pre-compiled yet, with it being so new and all.
To uninstall i just rm -rf /sw/bin/bitchx
In theory you can compile apps without fink but it requires downloading all the dependencies yourself, some possible tweaking of make files and other jiggerypokery. Fink is easier.
You don't actually need KDE to run linux applications, x11 by itself is enough to do that. Fink will allow you to download and compile the ones you want.
