Lately (my last 3 reformats and installs) I have this problem where I go to startup an application, and it comes up, however the spinning wheel comes up, and the appliation is unresponsive. Right-clicking on it in the dock says that the "application is not responding."
What's going on here? If I wait like 5 minutes the application finally becomes responsive.
I tried doing a search, but came up with far too many threads to search through. I'd really appreciate some help because this is starting to get real annoying. It doesn't happen all the time, just once in a while.

i sometimes have this problem on my pismo, and my guess is that its a network problem. does it mainly occur after a wake from sleep? or just at random?
if it's caused immediately after wake from sleep, then wait a few seconds before launching the app.
hope that helps.

My computer never goes to sleep, so I'm not sure.
It'll just happen at random times, and it's the most annoying thing ever. I have a hard time thinking that it would be caused by a network error.

if you are connected to a network try to turn of some services
go to utilities and find the app 'Directory Access'
Turn of all services you don't use.
If it wont work try an app like 'System Optimizer X 4.0' available on versiontracker to clear all casches.

Fire up Disk Utility and run "Repair Permissions" (under the First Aid tab). It tends to fix a lot of "unexplained" sluggishness.
