Looks like a bug.
Try closing the Finder window then launching a new one. See if the preview works.

No, this is persistant, even after restart.
I have the Apple MPEG2 component installed, this could be it.

It happens randomly to me, as well. And I don't have the MPEG2 component. It's pretty annoying.

It worked in the public beta 2 years ago!

Is this happening with one mpeg, or with all mpeg files? if it's just the one then I guess the file is'st 100% as it should be.

All MPEGS!
They play fine in Quicktime Player.

THis problem seems to be unique to 10.2. Usually if you close the preview with the little triangle at the top a couple times, it will eventually work. very annoying.

Yeah, this happens to me all the time. It pisses me off. It makes the Finder seem so shoddy. This should be a basic function for the Finder to carry out, but it just chokes. It's pathetic and unacceptable in an OS.
BTW, it also happens with movies or mp3s as attachments in Mail. I'll start playing the attachment embedded in the message body and it'll stop after a few seconds.

Got an iMac G3 600MHz, with 768MB RAM, an iBook (Dual USB) 500MHz with 640MB RAM, an iMac 17" 800MHz with 512MB RAM, a B&W G3 with 400MHz with 256MB RAM (built from 4 defect units )
Before I used to work with a G4 PCI (350MHz) and a couple of G3 B&W.
Yes I know the problem with MPEG preview in the finder, BUT only with damaged files. On none of the 7 computers listed above have I ever had the slightest problem with good material, or mp3s or mpgs in mail.
Either the media is not good, or somethings messing with your finders...
