Ok, when you download a file online you end up with a .dmg (disk image file). Then the file either mounts automatically or you have to double-click on it to "mount it as a mounted image" (the white rectangular box).

I downloaded DeskShade Plus. It auto-mounted and I got the application installed in my Application folder. I then quit Deskshade Plus.

Problem is when I tried to "eject" the mounted image it would not let me. It displayed this message:

"The operation could not be completed because the disk "Deskshade Plus" is in use."

It is not in use because I had "Quit the Application" already. I also made sure that the permission was set to me, the user.

I tried programs such as Delete It and Trash It but the mounted image is STILL there. It's not a life or death thing, but kinda bugging me. Any ideas? Thanks.

I've had that happen to me, too. OS X likes to think something's in use when it's not. Solution: If all else fails, log out.

Thanks. So simple, yet so effective. Loged out and logged back in. Mounted image is GONE.

Shouldn't be needed, but a logout will fix it.

Edit: Heh, too slow

Other ideas:

The ReadMe file on the disk image might still be open.

Also, sometimes programs don't release documents after they're done with them. So you double-click the readme, and when you're done, you close the document, but TextEdit may not let the system know that the document is no longer in use. Thus the disk is flagged as "in use" and cannot be ejected.

I have found that often, simply quitting TextEdit will solve the problem.
