Live365 has just released a program to broadcast your itunes playlist. We should all make our own radio stations and listen to each others radio stations.

Whose up for it?
Yes, I know I could buy a PC, but why?

This is actually very tempting/interesting to me - I have a LOT of mp3's and a cable connection (although that sounds like it is not important...?) and I would be very interested in starting my own internet radio station. Anyone out there done this with a PC or otherwise? I have listened to live365's streams before, but is there a cheaper alternative since I am willing to use all of my own resources (bandwith and cpu - if that is even possible?). Also, mp3 sushi looks interesting but not quite the same. I'll let you guys know if I get one up and running...

mp3 sushi rocks. its quite easy and you can live recompress to 64 k or other bitrates. and you have the option to stream either a radiostream or you the jukebox feature, which is great. you can browse your complete mp3 folders via web browser, make a selection and this plays in itunes. just great. btw. its free...

MP3 Sushi rocks. However, I think it's restricted to my network. I'm on a university LAN.

I've been using Quicktime Streaming Server for mine. But these two options look like they are easier to use. And I'd rather not run OS X Server just to use QTSS.

I would rather see ONE person buy an account and act as the general manager.

call it "none other then" MacNN

Let us submit a few tunes etc. or even talk radio type bits...

I would be more interested in that...

I'd be interested in this too. I might check it out in more detail this weekend.

I only have 56K. Does this mean I can't have a radio station?

I didn't think you had to run OSX Server to run QTSS. I don't think QTSS is "supported" under normal versions of OSX, but I'm pretty sure I've installed it before and it worked just fine.

I used to use Live365 back when it was free. I streamed live concerts of my band over the internet using MacAmp in OS 9. We stopped doing it once Live365 started charging.

You can run your own shoutcast server in OS X and stream that if you have the bandwidth.

You guys should be aware that streaming your MP3's of commercial music is technically illegal.

However, I don't have a lot of sympathy for the RIAA on this issue since they take such a boneheaded stance on it.

I have a shoutcast server set up on a different computer in another state. Is there a program that I can use that will allow me to stream MP3s and/or live Audio to that Shoutcast server?

iTunes doesn't appear to have it. There was an older MP3 program (which name I forget) that allowed for streaming to a shoutcast server, but there doesn't appear to be anything available right now.

Can anyone offer an idea?
DDJ

Now we come to step three. This... drives... most... people... crazy.

How much does it cost a year to legaly run an internet radio station?
I hate the RIAA and their stupid impossition of copyright laws to stop ANYTHING, I wouldn't mind if they were trying to work with tech but they're just evil!
