How can I setup my PowerBook G3 Pismo, with OS X 10.2.4, to spin down the hard drive when it's not in use? I can do this with my PowerBook G3 Wallstreet running OS 9.2.2 by using Energy Saver and selecting "Separate timing for hard disk spindown" box. On my Pismo, the OS X version of Energy Saver does not have that option, but it does have "Put the hard disk to sleep when possible." This does not spin the hard drive down at all even when there's been no disk activity for days. I have it now set to put the display to sleep after an hour but the hard drive will not spin down as I want it to and I do not want it to go to sleep because it will not wake when I try to access it with Timbuktu Pro, even when I select the option to "Wake for network administrator access."

Hi,
I'm using the same mac as you, a pismo, but running 10.2.4, I miss that option too, but the 'ut the hard disk to sleep when possible' seems to work for me, albeit quite randomly.
You could try using Cocktail, it's an-all purpose program that has ann option to spin the hard drive down after a set time. It also has a ton of other features too. It's a great wee program
hope it helps.

I know, it'd be so handy to just have it in there, especially for powerbook owners. When I'm normally running off the battery, I'll load up a number of articles, ge the cached in memeory and then wait till the hard drive to spin down, then it's all quite n cool, but without s epecific time, or way to spin it down, I just have to wait for the grace of X to do it for me. Coctail does do this, but I'v enot really tried it out yet.
