I'm having a hell of a time trying to uncompress disk IMG files. I've used Disk Copy, Stuffit, and one or two other tools. I've read up on the Apple website that said you need Disk Copy 6.3.3, however that's not working at all. I know the images are valid IMG files - but I can't open them.

Anybody have suggestions on how to mount and/or extract the files from these IMG containers?

thanks - danbrew

If they are DiskCopy .img files, the Disk Copy that comes with OS X should be able to open them. If they are ShrinkWrap .img files, you'll have to boot into OS 9 and use StuffIt Expander (or ShrinkWrap if you can find it).

They are Disk Copy OS X files - Disk Copy doesn't work. A cursory review of the net indicates that *lots* of people are having this problem - but I couldn't find any solutions...!

I haven't seen any reports of people having problems with img files and I have never had one that I couldn't open with either DiskCopy, Stuffit or Toast.

Have you tried the img file in question on another machine? I'll test it if you want to e-mail me it.

I get problems with them too, I've found a strange workaround though. When you double-click the file, you might get an error saying whatever, close the menu, now, double-click it again but don't do anything, don't open amy other files or windows or change programs, keep doing it till it works. It sounds weird, but it seems to work for me, god knows how.

This problem will crop up every now and again on my machine at home (oddly enough, the laptop hasn't exhibited this behavior that I can recall) and I can usually clear it up with a reboot.

How's your disk space? Maybe it's having trouble b/c available disk space is getting tight? (Longshot I know, but worth asking...)
