My parents called in a tech support question this evening. Their computer has been slowing down lately after a few hours of use. I had them run top and at the top of the list was the HP scanjet software using 40-80% of the cpu and with 155MB of virtual memory. I had them yank the power cord on the scanner to see if the software would shut itself off, but this resulted in a kernel panic. I told them to run their computer without the scanner for a while to see if that helps.

Has anyone had problems with an HP Scanjet 3570c?

thanks,
kman

Yeh that's a nown issue. I'm not sure if the newer drivers corrected that in all cases.

Your parents should be OK if you get them to disable to HP app that launches at user login. AFAIK, all it does is to make the scanner buttons active.
