How can I see how much memory is in the trash when I empty it?

The only way I know of is to select all (Command+a), then Get Info (Command+i).
Do this when you're looking at the contents of the trash of course.

You're welcome. And for future reference, you were asking how much hard drive was being used by items in the trash, not how much memory. If you'd like more information, here's some for RAM and another for hard drives.
