I want to play around w/ MySQL on my G4 iMac (osX 10.2.4).

The only thing I'm worried about is if it puts files throughout my computer and it is going to be a pain to get rid of them all later on. Is it?

install it using fink, then when you are done, and you want to get rid of it (and fink to), delete the /sw directory.

good luck!

I would have suggest doing it yours self, with otu fink. Then just remove the /usr/local/mysql folder when your done playing around with it.

On a side note if you are really worried about it you could look into a free host that supports PHP and mysql I know ish.biz is about as good as you can get for free.

MySql is normally installed in ./usr/local/mysql. To remove the bulk of it, remove that directory and the sub-directories contained in it.

It looks like I have to give ish.biz my credit card number to sign up. Is this true?

You can install Aaron Faby's (Server Logistics) pre-built packaged version of MySQL for OS X. It installs in /Library/MySQL so if you want to uninstall it later, an admin user can drag that directory to the Trash.
