Hi all,

I'm wondering if it's possible to set up my Mac so that it wakes from sleep when it detects request for a file sharing connection. I read somewhere that this can be done by enabling the "wwake for network adminstrative access" in the energy saver preference, but that doesn't seem to work on my machine.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks.

No. It has to be awake; it needs to be able to process the requests coming in over the wire, after all.

The 'Wake on LAN' feature puts the ethernet card into a special low-power state, listening for a specially formed network packet. You have to specifically send the special 'Wake' message from a program designed to do so.
