I've been trying to copy a small jpg to my iDisk Sites folder for three days now to no avail.
I'm using the internal modem as I'm travelling so this problem is not new. I've always had a terrible time transfering files to iDisk, normally experiencing frozen Finder windows until the transfer is complete. This time however I simply cannot transfer the file.
It was a small 32k jpeg. I tried to copy it with the regular iDisk mounting built into OSX. It takes ages to copy across and then I get an error. I tried Goliath but the copy process doesn't even start with it. It just hangs saying 'waiting to transfer'.
I tried Windows 2000 in VPC. Browsing the folders is fast but yet again I can't transfer the file.
I thought there was something wrong with the file so used a variety of jpeg outputs from Photoshop to Preview. Still doesn't copy. The file is now only 16k.
I then tried the Terminal using the following command:
cp filename.jpg /Volumes/dotmacaccount/Sites
After a minute or two I get a message saying 'input/output error'.
What the hell is going on? Please don't answer if you typically use a high bandwidth connection (I know errors happen with them too but want to hear from modem users).
BTW, I'm really getting used to the Terminal.

I found out the problem is with OSX itself. I can't seem to send any jpegs over to iDisk or to other html-based web servers no matter what. So I emailed the files to a crappy Windows box and then uploaded them from there.
But I'm really confused why I can't upload jpegs to a web server. I sent an RTF file and it worked fine.

Did you try using AFP instead of WebDav?

To use AFP select "Connect to Server" from the Go menu, then go to afp://idisk.mac.com, enter your login/pass and select it from the mount list.

Hmm, that's strange, works fine for me. Are you sure you entered that exactly? After going to "afp://idisk.mac.com" it immediately prompts me for authentication. Maybe you have a firewall issue or something.

Still trying. No firewall. Standard modem dialup. Dialogue box just says 'Contacting idisk.mac.com. Timeout in 118 seconds.'
Then it times out. No result. Can't understand how to do the full command in Terminal either. So far I've tried:
mount_afp afp://myname:mypassword@idisk.mac.com
Something else is supposed to be added to the command.

Try afp://username(colon)password@idisk.mac.com in Connect to Server. That works for me too.
( A colon turns into )

Screw it. Doesn't work for me. You are using the crappy internal modem, right?

FTP works fine from the Connect To Server menu though. Fast too, I was browsing around to download Mandrake 9.1. Looks like I'll have to wait til I find a fat pipe before downloading the isos.
