Okay, so I was reading through the comments on the OS X 10.2.5 story on the MacNN front page. And I came across this one who was (what else) complaining about being Apple's 'unpaid beta tester'.
I'm sratching my head at this one. The Public beta was beta quality. 10.0 was even on the edge. 10.1 I considered to be a solid full time OS. 10.2 I can't remember booting back into 9, I do everything on X. I don't think I even use Classic. What's up? Are there actually people out there who still think that 10.2 isn't ready for the world?

Yes. They're completely harmless however, and it's ok to ignore them.

This always annoys me too. I never tried the beta, but I bought 10.0 as soon as it came out and installed at once. I kept it as my single OS ever since. Granted, I lived in Classic (not OS9 boot but actual Classic I mean) most the time, couldn't print for a year, etc, but the things that held me up weren't beta-quality faults, they were just features that weren't there yet. And I'd bought the OS in knowledge of that. Printing, for example, required waiting for Epson, not Apple.
10.2 is an amazing OS. Could it be better? Undoubtedly. Is there a better OS for my needs out there at the moment? Well, if there is, I've not seen it yet.

What the nerd community most often fail to realize is that all features aren't equal. A well implemented and well integrated feature in a convenient interface is worth way more than the same feature implemented crappy, or accessed through a annoying interface.

My girlfriend started running OS X (10.0) on her 450Mhz blue and white smurftower. It was slowwwww!!!
Then a couple of updates came along and improved things. So by the time 10.1 was out a while we both had brand new FP iMacs that ran really well. Then 10.2 shipped and that was pretty much when we stopped using 9.
I still need ColorIt and MGI though...

I think you're a bit confused - what you encountered was actually a small land-dwelling mammal known as Idiotus Userus. Its natural habitat is on message boards and on VersionTracker. It enjoys attention, and often emits a mating call which happens to sound like the English words "beta quality" but which is actually just a series of grunts intended to attract females.
Idiotus Userus is often very aggressive, and in many cases, they compete to see who can scream the loudest. Biologists suspect that this is because females of the species are drawn to the male that is the most annoying.

When people say "FP iMac," do they mean Flat Panel iMac or Flower Power iMac? I used to think it was the latter but I'm not sure..

I think most mean flat panel and I do as well.
I believe it also makes more sense since the flat panel iMacs are a totally new line within the iMac line and have issues of their own whereas the flowerpower iMac is just a special color scheme within the G3 iMac line.
