Installed on my new 17" iMac G4 1Ghz and just noticed that when the machine wakes up from a sleep--the display is all screwed up & flashes between white & a bunch of graphic garbage on the desktop... Its unusable until you do a hard reboot!!!!!

I haven't yet installed it on my 17" Powerbook but probably will not until I find more people who've had this problem & or have a solution..

On my way to work...will have to figure this out later...not happy. Is there a way to 'turn back' and uninstall OS 10.2.5???
Sincerely,

Christopher GM Powers

I don't think you can 'turn back the clock' so to speak, just wait for a fix of some sort... Also from the Kbase docs I have read, Apple doesn't recommend installing an earlier version of OS X over a later one, whilst retaining your user account and data...

I had tons of issues with 10.2.4, I reinstalled 10.2.3 over the top, but they didn't resolve themselves. Ended up having to do a complete software reinstall back to a bare bones 10.2...

I'm holding off on 10.2.5 to see what issues may turn up...

Peace,

Marc

Go download the Combo updater. It usually fixes these sort of things.

No problem with a 500 Mhz Ti or a 733 Mhz G4. I worked with several versions of 10.2.5 and never hqad any display problems.

seems alright on my 1ghz superdrive tiboook.

aside from the weird issue of when I close the lid, it sleeps for a second then (sometimes) wakes up again. But that was there before.

I havent updated my Dual G4 1.25 FW800 yet, but I'm sure as hell gonna use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a restore image of my current OSX intall before i update. So i can "turn back the clock" so to speak if sh*t hits the fan

According to the Apple website regarding installation, on 17" models (pb, imac) please set the display to native setting.
On the iMac that is 1440x900.
I am assuming you guys read the info docs before installing.

I have a 1ghz iMac 17"

Thanks for the link, but the PowerMac is still no healthier - the screen grays out and insists you hold down the power button to restart the computer

It's on a CRT, btw.

it is a kernal panic for some reason... have you done a verbose reboot (apple-v)?

have you checked your logs?

have you installed any additional RAM lately?... could be the 10.2.5 is *even more * strict when dealing with RAM than before.

have you installed any other additional hardware recently?

have you tried booting "safe" with the shift key held down through reboot? does that make it be gooder?

have you tried rebooting and logging into another user account?

if it is doing this before you can get to a login screen... definitely do a verbose boot and see what it says before it craps out.

i think it is pretty safe to say that *on it's own* 10.2.5 is no worse than any other update... it's what it is combined with in your particular machine that is causing the problems.

fine on my 17" powerbook ... a few 12"s and the few towers i've done so far.

Great, thanks! I checked the kernel logs and it was reporting errors with USB, so I disconnected the extra USB devices and it's been up for a couple of hours now

seems to be the problem.. I get the wacky display problem at the resolution of 1152x760 (my prefered resolution)...however, at 1440x899 the sleep problem doesn't seem to be a problem..

not exactly pleased...i don't have the eyesight for the higher resolution all the time (heh, tiny print hurts my eyes, lol)..

How about increasing the font size? You then benefit from the native resolution of the screen (LCD screens always look messy at anything other than this) and higher quality font renderings?

Just a thought.
