`fink' says there's an upgrade for my current gtk, however, when I try to upgrade it wants to install xfree86... and I don't think this is what it would do as i have Apple X11.
Someone correct me.

What xfree86 package does it want to install? system-xfree86 does not install any xfree86 files, it just satisfies dependency information and checks whether you really have xfree86 installed somewhere else.

It asks if I want to install "xfree86" NOT "system-xfree86"

Sure. But if you install system-xfree86 manually first (this will only create a placeholder, not install any actual files), it won't bug you about xfree86 later when you try to install gtk

but I have system-xfree86 installed, and it still tells it wants to install xfree86. That's what I've been telling you
