Just drag the Mac OS 9 System Folder to the trash, and then any other OS9 files you don't need eg. OS9 applications etc.

Not if you dragged it to the trash!
Mac OS 9: Booting in Mac OS 9 at machine startup.
Classic: Loading Mac OS 9 after you have booted Mac OS X
Both need a complete Mac OS 9 system folder installed on you system. If you drag it to the trach, none of them will work!

you can't simply drag the 9 system folder to the trash. i've tried it. it gives permissions errors. I've tried it as root as well and can't get rid of it's system folder. anyone have any suggestions?

Open terminal
Type "sudo rm -rf " without the quotes and drag any folder that you want to be gone into the terminal window and hit return.
Enter your password and the folder will be gone.
Personally I don't understand why you would want to get rid of classic. It doesn't take up much drive space and allows you to run a classic program if the need arises, but people do some strange **** to their computers…

I have been running all OS X with no OS 9 folder sitting around for a year.... I see no reason for it.
