OOooooooooooooooo......
Maybe if you go to a real AppleStore, they might have it in a real box, just like that one.. And just maybe you will even get to touch it!!
Then you can come back here and tell us all about it.
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.

The new box fits in with the other Apple software boxes, and it might mean that we won't see a major AW update in a long time (or that Apple don't want AppleGaramond on any of their boxes).

I would hope that it doesn't, you know, suck. Or at least, I hope it sucks a lot less than the current version, which was the original Bad Carbon Port in its first OSX incarnation and is only marginally better now.

So, I'm confused... is there a 6.2.7 update out there? Because I can't see it @ apple.com/software under "Downloads:" or apple.com/appleworks. Ugh I want to stop using Word...

For what it's worth, Appleworks 6.2.6 was included in the most recent disk image supplied by Apple to the Maine Learning Technology Initiative for the 38,000 iBooks issued to Maine's 7th and 8th graders.
Corruption in the presentation module is addressed specifically in the update.

I would love to see AppleWorks 7 be a OpenOffice port... bring the best parts of AppleWorks and OpenOffice to the table...

I just don't think it's worth Apple's time to work on a office app. all alone...

Think Safari...

I use AppleWorks 6.2.4 as my main word processor and I like it. I don't think it's bad at all.

Good point. Apple needs some way to compete with microsoft, and they are doing a good job with safari.

what about things like Kword and all the other Kapps?

Are any of them worth apple's time or would Open Office be a much better app to work with?

I tried OOo for the PC and it was OK... crashed and killed my paper but other than that...

I'd love to see apple bundle some sorta OS X office suite I dono why... I mean M$ does have a pretty good suite..... but it's so freaking expencive.

I think similar to what they did with KHTML for Safari they could just use OOo for the core routines and classes. But re-think the whole UI and maybe introduce some new concepts. I highly doubt we would be really happy if they just took OOo the way it is today and re-compiled it for native Aqua.

Apple just updated the AppleWorks site.. I guess..

Take a look of the specification
Apple - AppleWorks - Technical Specifications

Any "new" things from this version other than the fonts, clip arts, and templates.
Still Mac OS 8.1 or later... can't wait for the full cocoa AppleWorks

Its theoretically possible to simply use the core routines of OOo and build off of that. In fact, there _is_ a Java version of the interface, alongside the normal C++ version of the interface.

What some people don't realize though is that it would take a bunch of work. Witness our NeoOffice project. But I suppose if either Ed or I could work on it full time it would be a lot farther along right now.

Personally, if Apple picked up OOo and tried to run with it, I think they could make a very decent office suite that would be very competitive. It would probably be a fork though, since lots of stuff would need to be changed.

The M$ file translators leave a lot to be desired. They have a habit of crashing AW and whacking the file that I'm trying to save. (Maybe that's some sort of 'feature', like a Windows product...)

Clean, simple, no bloat, support all major MacOS X features such as real toolbar, slide-in window with transparency, etc etc.

Cocoa easily look better and code is way smaller/simple therefore we will get more features than bug fixes

I guess you especially appreciate the system wide spell checker in Cocoa apps.
