i ran the combo updater on my iMac 333 and now it will not boot up. i get a start up chime and the gray boot screen, but right when the gray apple shows up it hangs. this is on a machine that has a 55 GB drive in it. i formated and installed 10.2 on it in a separate machine and moved it to the iMac so i didn't have to partition it into 8 GB and 47 GB. is it possible that the combo updater recognized that the machine is a 333 and now will not let it boot up because the startup disk is not within an 8 GB partition? any thoughts on a solution are appreciated. thanks.

You are an idiot.

I have a 300 ibook with the 3 gb hard drive and the update worked fine for me. I am not sure what to tell you.

DiskWarrior 2.1.1 = No Luck
Norton System Works 2.0 = No Luck
Drive 10 = No Luck
Tech Tool Pro = No Luck
Disk First Aid = No Luck

Now after all that and reseting the PRAM countless times and the Logic Board it won't do anything but boot into Open Firmware. Ran the following with no luck:
reset-nvram (it gives me a 'DEFAULT CATCH' error when I try)
set-defaults
reset-all

i will try anything anybody recommends.

Sorry, but it sounds like you answered your own question, and you need to partition your drive. Your iMac seems to be showing all the correct symptoms:

I love you, but I still hate computers. Thanks for your help. I swear I have ZERO luck searching the Knowledge Base. If I weren't so inept I could have saved myself an evening of diagnostics.

IS the OS completely contained within the first 8GB - might pay to partition it slightly under the 8GB mark
