Hello everyone-

I have a problem I can't figure out and would like some help please. I use Entourage as my email client with a cable modem connection and a router. When my ibook wakes from sleep, it checks my mailboxes. the problem I'm having is that before my router(DHCP) has a chance to negotiate a new LAN IP, internet connect pops up and says it could not connect when attempting to dial. This only happens when using Entourage and I have combed through the prefs. Is there something I'm missing here? I have no dialup modem and I can't figure out why it wants to dial. It actually says "Dialing" in the taskbar at thebottomof the Entourage window. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

in your network pref pane ... in the the 'show:' menu -> 'network port configurations' ... have you unchecked all devices *except* what you need? that is if you are on a cable modem... leave 'ethernet' checked... but uncheck 'airport' 'bluetooth modem' 'modem' IrDA port' 'firewire' or anything else that might appear in the menu.

then apply the changes. you should be good to go... sounds like your ethernet isn't 'there' yet... so it goes to the next active (checked) port in the list... in your case... the internal modem.

the automatic-all-ports-active default that X ships with i find quite annoying. for every machine i make i set it up with an ethernet-only location and an airport-only location and modem-only location... just works better that way.

Yeah,...Internet Connect is wissin' me off too. When I go into the Network Preferences & set it up-then save & exit the fields are blank when I come back to check. For some reason I am also unable to input anything into Internet Connect. It's fields are constantly blank.Anyone know of a workaround short of reinstalling os X? I seem to be stuck running my dsl in os 9.
