Alright, I have my Sony Handycam and I has the thing for FireWire on it. I connect it to my iMac G4 and it's not detected. What can be the problem? Would the fact that I bought it in China be a factor?

You need to give more information. Is it a built in firewire port on your mac, or are you using a PCI card? What application are you using? What are you trying to do?

If you are using iMovie or FCP you can take a look at their respective device compatibility lists to see if your camera is on them.

Yes it's a built in FireWire port, I'm using iMovie, and I'm trying to edit video.

Are you using OS 10.2.5?

If so, it seems there might be a problem in 10.2.5. See this thread...
