This is both a software & hardware question. I am using Golive 6.01 on a G4 450 with 768 megs of RAM-running osX. I believe it has a ATI Rage Pro video card.

I'm pretty satified with most software performance on my current system. However, Golive is PAINFULLY slow. Especially when switching back and forth between the site window and a web page. e.g. when using the lasso tool to select an image. There is often a 2-3 second delay. I don't know enough about os x to determine if this is a cpu issue or a quartz (video card) issue.

My question is this....Would I see the biggest improvement for this specific issue by upgrading the processor (e.g. 1 ghz) or by replacing the video card?

Thanks

Golive doesn't tax the graphics card. You would see the bigger improvement by upgrading the CPU.

Adobe software is known to be painfully unresponsive under OS X.

GoLive 6.0.1 seems to run just fine here on my 1 GHz TiBook with 768 MB RAM. There are some slow downs in the web site manager window and making links visually, but its fine for me.

I would get the 1 GHz G4 upgrade, and make sure you get the one with L3 cache as that will make a big difference.

GoLive 6.0 is PAINFULLY slow in almost every task on my B/W G3 350 with 768MB RAM. Especially when switching between layout and code views. Entering type in the layout view can't keep up with my typing either. So I end up doing my layout work in GoLive ( I like its interface better) and typing work in Dreamweaver ( faster ).

Hopefully it'll run better on my 1GHz PowerBook I just ordered.

it runs great on my dual G4 800 with a simple geforce 2mx card. CPU and ram will probably help you the most.

I have an 800mhz Powerbook with 1gb of memory and I too notice that GoLive is _really_ slow when switching to/from the site window. Whenever I open up a file from the site window the program just sits there and then s-l-o-w-l-y opens the file. This is just another GoLive bug, and hopefully Adobe will fix it soon. I don't know how much a processor upgrade is going to help you with this problem...

I just got my new PowerBook 17" w/ 1GB RAM and it totally crushes my old 500MHz Titanium laptop in GoLive 6.01. Very fast and snappy. It was so slow on my Titanium.

Also, try waiting for the next round of upgrades from Adobe (maybe Apple too). I think the problem has something to do with the fact that these are relatively new Carbon implementations of apps that have had years of work put into them to optimize for OS 9. Everybody needs some time to re-learn optimization for X. I've heard rumours that at least the next rev of Photoshop is destined to be a performance fix for OS X.
