There has been some posts about this, but I feel like I need to revive it to get whatever info is out there.
It seems that Apple's 10.2.5 update has busted my Firewire, and it's not just me as others are having the problem too. It was either the update, or a spooky coincidence.
I can't get my DV video camera to be reconised by any of my video editing software now, and the sys profilier says no devices attached. I've tried just about everything to fix it short of re-installing, from fsck to a new firewire cable, log in as root, etc... still doesn't work. I've had the computer for 9 months, and never had this problem, until now!
Does any one else have this problem still, have you fixed it? Anyone heard of any possible fixes from Apple? Anyone have any news?

have you tried installing 10.2.5 with the combo updater. I don't mean installing 10.2 again, just the 10.2.5 combo update.

Ok, tried everything except that!
I'm kinda hesitant to do the update twice, will it damage the system in some way, updating twice?

Alright, so I installed the 10.2.5 Combo update, still no luck!
What is going on? Why is the FireWire not reconising anything, none of my video apps reconise anything.
Is there a way to re-install the FireWire drivers from disc? Or do i have to re-install the whole OS?

make sure it is software and not hardware by booting into 9.
In my case I actually had a dead firewire chip and needed to have the motherboard replaced. A few weeks later I had the same problem. It turned out that one of my firewire devices (a vst hard drive) was managing to fry my motherboard's firewire everytime it was plugged in.
Anyway new vst, new motherboard (happily both under warrenty) and I'm a happy camper.

I had the firewire port "burn out" on an older G3 iMac DV. Do you have a tower or an iMac/iBook/Powerbook ... the latter 3 provide MUCH less power to the firewire bus and external devices can burn out your port more easily (especially bus powered external devices, which I assume your camera might be).
Your machine is 9 mos old ? Then it should still be under warranty. Do you have a hardware test CD that should've come with your machine ?
I've had ZERO probs with 10.2.5 (and I have two self-powered external firewire peripherals). You should definitely attempt to troubleshoot the hardware ... if your camera isn't even appearing on the firewire bus, it sounds like that is AT LEAST as likely as a software prob with 10.2.5

I have the exact same problem, updated to 10.2.5, and not only did I lose FireWire, my powerbook also lost its ability to see the Airport Card that was installed. This is a 1GHz TiBook - so its not that old. I used TechTool, AppleHardware Test CD, Booted into OS 9, and booted into FireWire target mode and nothing, no Airport or FireWire. So after a couple hours on the phone with Apple, this baby is going in for a check-up this week. I would call Apple if I were you.
