Today I was reading about AAC and it's superior quality and stuff.

So I decided to do some hand's on testing, I encoded Pat Metheny's Follow Me (from Imaginary Day) @ 128kbps to compare with my iTunes encoded MP3 @ 160kbps.

so, first impression ... bass sounds infinitely better on the MP3 ! WTF ? so I started looking at settings per song ... and found out that the MP3 is recognized as MPEG Layer III, and the AAC is recognized as a QuickTime movie ( so ? you might ask ). Well the problem is that iTunes didn't apply my Jazz EQ settings to the AAC, hence no bass ...

anyway .. here's the question, which app. do you use to listen to AAC's ? (here's to hoping it's not iTunes )

I will post later a zip file with Follow Me enconded as MP3 and AAC @ 128 and 160 each so everyone can compare ... btw. I believe it is not illegal since THAT particular song was included with my PMG4 as part of the Rip-Mix-Burn campaign ... by Apple, for Mac users ...

iTunes' equilizer settings and sound enhancer only affect mp3s. Even if it's a QuickTime movie of just an mp3 audio track, it won't work. I'm sure the next iTunes update will fix that.

This is the only reason why I haven't converted my entire library to aac, and I'm sure the same goes for a lot of users.
