After using OS X for a few days on end, my volume, brightness, and eject keys stopped responding. Also, connecting to servers does not work. Apple->About this Mac does not do anything either... possibly more to come. This was a problem in 10.2.4 for me as well. This is about the fourth time it happened (first in 10.2.5), but the first time all my preferences did not go with it. The past 3 times, my Dock was reset to defaults, my Mail folders and accts were gone, etc. Any ideas? I booted off the Jag disk and repaired the disk (no problems found) and repaired a handful of permissions. I don't know what causes it. Any help appreciated.

Fixed it! All it took was some fscking in single user mode (*funny look* that sounds so wrong....)

Odd.. I found that it occurs when OS X tries to run a login item that no longer exists, like a remote server.
