So here I sit with a iBook 600 with 384 MB of RAM. I'm converting a 634 meg .MOV to .AVI. While ripping a CD with iTunes, and listening to another. And I'm browsing with safari, while doing a spreadsheet with Excel.. And I serve my webpage off this machine. Hot damn.

So instead of bitching about OS X, I wanted an OS X thread.

So honk if you love OS X......

Welcome to multitasking. People have been doing this years before OS X existed, you know.

Honk indeed.

Yea. Over the last 2 years, OS X has definitely changed the way i use my computer. I'm willing and able to push it harder than ever while my PC friends' computers grind to a halt on the simplest things.

i have *always* been intruiged by mac OS, especially X. i finally got the money to get my iBook, much to the negative looks from the people i know. having to endure many macs suck comments, and there is no software for them.

all i can say now is that they are the ones who are missing out.

Honk honk.

I get frustrated by the rough edges sometimes, but I still think Mac OS X is pretty awesome overall.

I like to think different...

ARRRROOOOOOOOOOGAH!

I love OS X. It's not fast, its not terribly efficient in some ways, but its great looking, it helps me be productive and fun at the same time. Im confident that 10.3 will make up for a lot of 10.2's shortcomings. I'm sure continue to be impressed this years advancments.

Honk! honk...!

To those who sayI X isn't fast, I'd say OK it doesn't feel fast, at times. There's a difference.

I'm shocked by how often my Win XP machine (more than double the clock speed) glitches and grinds to a halt, and makes me wait while it does the dumbest thing. OS X is at least smooth and consistent.

Honk! honk!

Excellent point !! My wussie G3 iMac seems to be slower than my GF's XP box when working with a single app. But, with mulitple items running, OS X seems to scale more evenly whereas her's seems to cross some mysterious "point" where the entire machine seems "overwhelmed" (for lack of a better term).

Multitasking may have existed previously, but nothing compares to Mac OS X.

A honk here as well....

OSX is a pleasure day to day and only makes me want to have more apps to play with and one at work.

There are at least 3 times a day (sitting in front of my NT4.0 box) that I think, "I could do this quicker if I had X app running on OSX"

HONK

Well I feel the Same way as most people. I use setup XP boxes all the time. XP seems like it can't handle the mulitple tasks. The Clock speed of my mom's XP box is at least 3 times my G4 but When trying to do more than one thing at a time XP seems to grind to a painful halt.
