my other computer is an iMac andi was on it the other day in classic, which i usually run and i decided to go into x to keep up with the newer versions of programs and when x loaded i noticed that everything ( i mean every single thing) was deleted with the exception of the trash. since everything was deleted i couldnt go into the system pref's to go back to classic and i tryed to re-install the applications and programs, etc. but so much of the operating systemwas deleted that i could not even install the hardware off the disks, rendering my mac a completely usless piece of machinery. could someone please tell me if there is a way to get into osx even though everything is deleted, or how to fix this problem or if you know that its useless could you please EMAIL me at illestration8973@hotmail.com if you can because i check that much more often than i check this site

YIKES !! How could you possibly have booted into X if everything was deleted ? The fact that it booted into X at all implies that you basic System is still there. When you say you were in "classic" do you mean that you were using OS 9 ? (I would think yes since you are talking about booting "back" into X. )
Start up your machine, open the hard drive (preferably in list view) and tell us what folders you see there (is there an Applications, Users, System, & Library folder at least) ?

first of all, i doubt that "os x deleted everythging." - more likely scenario is that someone else was using the computer in os 9 and saw all this stuff and trashed it.
try booting off of your os x cd...i am assuming it is 10.2.x....and do a clean install.

Some files weren moved or deleted, this has happened to me before.
Use the OS9 CD and hold the "c" key down on startup.

yeah, listen to juanvaldes or moonmonkey ... you can boot into 9 using either method and then change the default startup back to 9 and then try to repair/restore your X system from there.
Also, when you get back in 9 --- check the trashcan
