Hi
I was working and noticed an unknown, unlabelled 'volume' appear on my desktop. The image is what I associate with loading up new software, a white thing that looks a bit like a portable zip disk drive, not a drive with a globe on top of it.

anyway, the volume had no title or label. I just dumped the thing in the trash, and it was gone. It happened twice tonight.

I later checked my system preferences and noticed my firewall was off. My mac was connecting to the internet through an airport connection.

Should I worry that the image on my desktop was the marker for some kind of internet intruder? Or is it likely to be something I inadvertently downloaded and did not pay attention to?

Now that I have read about firewalls, I am confused as to whether I should just "turn on firewall" in my system prefs, or whether I need a specific configuring utility like Brickhouse to do this????

Do you have a digital camera and a card reader? My Olympus SmartMedia cards show up as "Unlabeled" and do not manually "eject" from the reader when I drag them to the trash.

Cipher13> Does the Memory Stick mount as a drive? (Sorry, I don't have one to compare) If so, you should be able to Get Info (File Menu -> Get Info) and change the name there.
Peace. Love. MacOSX.
