I have mac osx10.2 installed on my tower. We just got a copy of osx server10.2 and im trying setup a dual boot on an extra 80gig we have in the tower so I can test the server.

Well first it wont boot off the cd, so I tryed to goto
Server cd>system>installation>packages>OSInstall.mpkg

It seemed to install the whole os onto the drive.
I tryed to tell osx to startup from that disk (It does showup in there) but still no luck it wont boot to the drive.

I tryed running the Install mac osx server app on the cd, however it just wants to reboot and when it does it loads right back into osx
(I guess its trying to boot off cd?)

Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Thanks

MrHack

You must have some "bootx" file problem, I would find a workable OSXServer disk and try re-installing...

How old is the tower? What version of Server is it? (10.2, 10.2.1...) And how new is the computer? If its from this year, you may have to contact Apple about getting and update to work with your setup.

Call Apple. There is a known issue with OS X Server not booting on the 2003 Macs (you'll need to get 10.2.3(4?) on CD for it to start from the CD properly.

You mean without booting off the disc? No. You really need to boot off a clean disc and go from there.

Just call apple and tell them you have a new PowerMac and need a newer version of 10.2 server on CD. They will send you one.

Come on people. If you don't know the correct answer, don't just assume something.

I have a newer dual 1.25 with OSX Server installed. I found out how to install it from the Apple discussion board.

No you don't have to boot off the cd. You do have to get to a couple of buried files and install those, then reboot. I had 10.2.3 client installed, ran this file, rebooted, and 10.2.3 client became 10.2 server. So it was a basic upgrade.

Think I found it.

Don't boot off the cd. Navigate to MacOSXServerInstall.mpkg on the server cd and run that. Then reboot and client becomes server. That's what I did with no troubles.

Have you tried downloading the 10.2.5 Server Combo updater from Apple and running it on the drive that you installed 10.2 Server? You should be able to install 10.2 Server on another drive, then patch it to the latest version, then boot off that drive.

I recently had this same problem with going from OS X to OS X Server. Easiest solution I found was first reinstalling OS X, and then before going to 10.2.3, or whatever update, install OS X Server by going to MacOSXServerInstall.mpkg like what was said earlier. From there you can run software update and install 10.2.5. I'm running this on a Dual1.25 purchased a couple months ago and once getting past this problem, its been running great.

The point of going to Server is to install over your version of OS X, which adds features to your OS. There's not a single loss of features that I know of between the two, which is why you don't dual-boot with it.

Yeah that's right. You have to change/delete a couple files first. I'll see if I can't find what they are.

I cant do that powertowerman, I never recieved a jaguar 10.2 cd with my tower. I got a restore cd with 10.2.3 on it
So just installing 10.2 isnt an option.
