I'm having another hour right night like I did a couple weeks ago when Mail won't send messages -- spinning its wheel for a minute or so -- and then saying something to the effect "Your smtp server is not responding. Do you want to try <<your other account>>?

Well, last time I tried my other account - and it denied my password (half-dozen times). Then it denied my original (primary) account's password. After a few hours I was able to connect again - but (if I remember right) I may have had to re-insert password into key chain.

Very annoying - how are people finding the reliability of Apple servers these days?

FWIW: I'm connecting via TCP/Airport and RoadRunner - and web browsing was unaffected during the troubled smtp time.

Actually, today's was late morning (11am-ish EDT)
[It did clear up within 20 minutes this time]
Previously it had been early afternoon, for at least an hour.
A hassle when you've got a real-time project going.

I get this all the time, I think the reliability is improving but there should not be any downtime, at any time of day, everyone is not in the same timezone.

True. I didn't even think about that-- I just thought of the fact that we have regularly scheduled down-time for both our IMAP and SMTP servers here at work.
