Yep, read 'em. Usually there will say what the offending process is. My one and only kernel panic was when I upgraded to 10.1 and CDEjectKey caused the kp - it showed it right there on the kp screen. I booted in single user mode, deleted CDEjectKey and all was well.
It only gets logged if you get the "nice" SOFT kernel panic. The one apple coated in that nice square window telling you to hold down the power button. If you get the HARD kernel panic (black/white terminal-like text spit out on your screen), it usually isnt logged.
