How do I get a file from a friends Mac when having his username and password?

Shouldn't be that difficult, but do not have the time to dive into long manuals, need the file right no (too huge for email), iChat doesn't work...

Does he have an ftp server running? If not, turn it on in the "Sharing" pane of the System Preferences.

Does his ISP block traffic on the FTP and FTP-Data ports?

Perhaps change FTP ports to something other than the standards, then log in as such:

ftp://user:pass@ip:port

Found it already: just "Connect to server" in the Finder and enter afp://ip-address!
