So, steve thinks you can only do 4 songs of good quality in an hour huh?
Well, I put him to the test and downloaded the counting crows CD off Limewire - every one of them (16 tracks) at 192Kbs. Took 50 mins on an ADSL line.... I then of course deleted them ;-)
Of course, I downloaded them all while working so the time I actually spent looking for and monitoring the connection was 10 mins at most.
So, I made $16 for 10 mins work or $96 an hour. Slightly higher than minimum wage eh?

Yeah, well if your look those of us who really love music you have to then cull through all of the ID3 tags and fix every little details the way it should be. Change the file names and so forth. And you'll never know if they were all ripped from the same ripper or just throw together and the tags modified because they all had the same 192 rate. Oh that and 128 AAC is equivilent to 256 MP3. So mostly you spent time downloading crap...
But you did get it for free. You forgot to take into account that you had to actually launch limewire... Which is an embarassing piece of crap. But since it's elegant enough for you. Did you get a chance to listen to the tracks in advance? Are all 16 really that great?

EXACTLY!!!!!
I'm not an anti-Limewire guy, but I am so F@#$ing sick and tired of downloading MP3s that have crap like "Ripped by DeExecutioner" voiced over the start of the song or are cut out at the last few seconds!!! I also hate the Eminem coming out as M1nE'm or some other ebonics type code.
Until you listed to the whole CD, you don't know what you have. I know the Eminem CD took me forever to download because there were so many versions that were crap. Then the kbps didn't all match up (some sounded good, others didn't) then I had to make all of the ID3 tags make sense, then I had to download the cover art (simple, but yet one more step), then I had to organize... just to guarantee a good copy. (or I could have spend $9.99 for the whole thing! and had a higher quality legal copy of the CD with cover art etc.) Even after I do get the whole thing, I still have to clear out all of the other crap that I started to download or was a fake etc.
All in all, to get the same quality/cover art/guarantee etc. I would have to say that it was somewhere more around the 6-8 songs per hour...
P.S. Some people (and again, I'm not trying to burn you as I have done it in the past) don't want to sit in front of their computer for hours trying to figure out how to get a high quity copy of a song.
I like the idea of being able to download the new CD in my boxers at 12:01 am the day it comes out and KNOW it's perfect. I'll be walking out the door with the CD in hand when many are still trying to find song 4...
Just my 2¢

I agree that I prefer to buy a real cd. Then rip it for computer use and iPod use.
As a world traveller it is perfect to have hundreds of cd's with me on my PowerBook and iPod, instead of the 50 cd's I traveled once with in a big Samsonite, where all jewel cases were broken after a while.
i do not need the MP3 **** from Limewire or Kazaa or whatsoever since the quality often is bad. Besides that I like the real cd, with art, song text, etc.
I never liked cd's that much as LP's, where the album was a real album. Like ELO beautiful album, Genesis "Three sides live" beautiful photo's.
Even the sounds of a real LP was better. Then getting these 96 kbs MP3 with voice-over, ending earlier, etc: no way.
I buy real cd's.

I agree, You never know the quality of the songs. That is why I like the Apple music service. Because when I pay for the song I know it's high quality, I know that I don't have to look around for servers that are running to get the song, I also know that I don't have to hope that the quality is good. To me It's worth it. I may still use Aquisition for some things but I'll mostl likely be buying more music now than stealing it since I don't have to worry about the quality and other things.

That was today. Try someone else a little more popular at 6pm tonight. Then report back how much per hour you earned.

My average is lower than 4 songs an hour, actually... I remember the last time I tried downloading 1 song... It took me over an hour for just 1 song...
It can very greatly depending on time and popularity... Try searching for an album you like but you feel is not that popular, and see what you come up with...
