Please help - I'm pulling my hair out!

When I click on Apple's watch now button from this link:

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/qtv/specialmusicevent/

My QT player opens then immediately says...Couldn't open the file "apr28_28_56_100_250_ref.mov" because the file was not found

I've repaired my permissions, run fsck and still nothing. itunes4, QT6.2 works fine - including streaming MPEG4 stuff of Apple's site.

Can anyone offer some help? Does the link work for you - I presume yes as I can't find other posts about this problem.

I asked the same question some hours before...

See if you have the 3ivx plugin for divx installed.

Pull it out of the folder (park it for a while on your desktop f.i.

That worked for me.

Thanks but no luck - I double checked this after reading your post but haven't installed any DVix type stuff on this new machine.

Also I don't get the same crash (spinning wheel) you posted about - I simply get the file could not be found error from the player? Almost like the link isn't right or QT/Safari isn't passing it correctly.

Can anyone post the http address that the player info window shows when streaming this file? I'd like to try that directly.

Thanks again,

Jules.

I am having the exact problem. I found a divx component (not 3ivx), but moving it has not worked for me.

Thanks Appleman - but I meant something else.

After clicking the watch now button the QT player should start. Then Option i will open the information window. This will have a URL for the stream itself...could you post/type that as it can't be cut?

Thanks again for the help...

That's inside the browser right? That's what I get...and it doesn't change no matter how long you leave it.

The same URL pasted into the quicktime player instantly gives the same message as my first post....actually it's just changed. Seems to have been fixed by Apple as I haven't done anything since earlier today!!

Check it out - seems to be working now!!!

Thanks again for everyone's help.

No go with QT here as well. The sad thing is that I watched it live via a feed from www.msnbc.com on Windows media player on at tip from the MacCentral site the day of the event. And one wonders why QT doesn't have wider acceptance outside of Apple's movie trailers.

Have you set up your QuickTime preferences properly? Change the Transport to HTTP if you're behind a NAT router.

My name's ...uh... it's a bummer man.
