Is it worth upgrading to 10.2.5 from
10.2.4. I am asking because I noticed
when I was downloading iTunes 4 that
10.2.4 was recomended and not 10.2.5.

Is 10.2.5 that bad?

No, you should upgrade.

I've been hesitant to upgrade also, any reasons why I should? Right now I'm happy and 'if it aint broke don't fix' it seems to apply.

10.2.5 fixes a lot of bugs in 10.2.4. Like the date bug, the iBook battery thing, and several common kernel panic problems.

You need to change your perspective to "It's always broke and it'll always need another fix" because that's the way software works

Seriously, I don't know why anyone would even consider not installing updates as they become available. Just click the "install" button when the Software Update shows up once a week and don't think about it. If you fear that an update might break something that currently works, let me comfort you by saying that I have never had an update or new software release cause new problems on the hundreds of macs I've set up - it is a very, very rare circumstance.

So go ahead and install 10.2.5 already

10.2.5 fixes the Radeon driver so VBL sync works on all ATI-equipped Macs.

This alone is more than enough reason to upgrade.

I disagree - 10.2.5 has caused me so much grief. Kernel panics every 10 minutes just because I use a M$ keyboard and mouse (no USB hub involved which is the general belief of the KPs). I believe this is Mac specific - I have a 400 G4 AGP tower whereas my mother's flat panel iMac works just fine with 10.2.5

I have gone back to 10.2.4 and will stay there until 10.2.6

b-t-w it also deleted printer drivers and fonts from my system!
this sig intentionally left blank

From reading people's experiences with system upgrades over the last couple years here in the forums - and from 15 years with Macs...

A stable system is a wonder to behold - and not to be futzed with. Some machines seem to just ROCK with certain systems. When I get in one of those situations, I wait and let other people beta-drive the upgrade while I watch for reports.

If your system works steady for you - and you don't have hardware conflicting with that system version - and there's no great new feature or enhanced compatibility... why risk messing it up? There've sure been lots of sob stories where (sometimes for indecipherable reasons) why some hardware just doesn't work so hot after an upgrade.

So, my point is... an ungrade is not as safe as popping a vitamin pill. If you can't risk being the guinea pig, be cautious

This is good advise - especially if you have lots of 3rd party, OS modifying apps that may get nailed by an update.

Meanwhile, I upgraded to 10.2.5 because iMovie3 really sucked under 10.2.4 and some DVDs (Panasonic E-30 produced) would not play. 10.2.5 fixed these problems and has generally performed well for me on my dual1.25 / FW800

meh, i didn't notice any big difference, except for being a bit slower. didn't seem to fix my PPP/DNS problems, or anything else big really, maybe Samba....oh yeah, dropped support for my CDRW, LaCie SCSI something...

i delayed for a while, it's always a good idea to wait at least 3 days. anyone remember the iTunes update (x.x.3?) wiping drives that had a space in the name? yeah, a number of "Macintosh HD"s got cleared with that one....

Thanx guys. I think I will move to 10.2.5
know. It is just that when I upgraded from
10.1.4 to 10.1.5 I would reproducable
KPs when running using the iSub in classic
it never happens in 10.1.4 but always happens in 10.1.5 (It has been fixed now
).

I know that you already decided to upgrade but just to say so, I am still using 10.2.3.

By far the best until hopefully 10.2.6.

>>can't get on to me for not trying it because I have tried .4 and .5 and they don't want to work with my dialup connection and my system feels the opposite of snappy (tm).

The whole line "I'm not upgrading because 10.2.x seems to more stable than the current version" is largely superstition or based on errors the individual user created. Just upgrade to whatever is the newest.

Heh heh, oh no, there've been many instances where a newer version of software introduces nasty bugs. Sometimes new releases in fact are worse than older ones.
i look in your general direction
