i have just an HDD upgrade on my iBook and partitioned as follows:
100 MB - bootstrap partition ( for linux)
1 GB - swap (for linux)
10 GB - Mac OS X partition (HFS+)
5 GB - Mac OS 9 partition (HFS)
10 GB - separate partition [i named it DATA] for files (HFS)
7+ GB - linux partition (ext3)
my problem is when i log on MacOSX (10.2.5) and copy files from network/local HD to my DATA partition i encounter error message and file copy process cannot be done,... when i log on MacOS9 (chinesse version --do you have any idea how can i make it on english?) file copy is ok, log on my linux (Debian GNU/Linux), file copy is OK.
..this have been posted on iBook forum

Try fixing permissions with Disk Utility maybe.

...tried it already but still error is encountered! i try to reformat/erase this partition and change partition type to HFS+ and it goes well, this error is no longer encounter...wonder why i keep on trying to make HFS partition type to work? that is because i wanted to have read/write access when i boot my system on linux

I don't understand why you have partitioned the OS 9 as HFS, and the Data as HFS, instead of HFS+?
OS 9 is, unlike OS X, not a multi-language OS.
You have to buy an English version if you want an English OS 9, a French version if you want a French OS, etc.

There might be something wrong with the
filenames or you are trying to copy special files (those in /dev/ for example)
What I would recomend is that you try
copying one file at time if you are copying multiple files or folders.
Tell us if that helps.

...ooh!!! silly me, i forgot to mention that this doesnt happen all the time, file copy sometimes successful but oftentimes it fails, i cant figure out where or what makes file copy to fail, i try to copy folder with multiple files inside --sometimes ok but sometimes it fail, try to copy small file, and so with large file and encounters the same problem.
