Sorry for not searching the forums before posting, but I can't for the life of me figure out what to search for. Here is my problem. I am running OS X on my ibook. Every time I try to open a PowerPoint file created by someone else by double clicking on it, it starts to open using Office 2001, under classic. I have Office X on my machine & would like for the presentations to open in PP for X. Is there some kind of a preference that I can change somewhere to make this happen?

Two ways:

Select the file and press Apple/command & I and in the window that appears you can select the application.

You can also right/control click on the file and if you hold down the option key you can set a menu preference 'Always open with..' and select the app you want to use.
