This is a public service announcement.
Last night I brought my PowerBook upstairs to get some things done while we watched TV. I have OS X Client installed on the internal HD. A little while later I went downstairs, hooked the PowerBook into the devices (USB, Monitor, FW, etc.), booted the PB and held down the option key to boot into OS X Server. Went to log in and...
Welcome to Darwin!
login:
WTF?
The screen was COMPLETELY black. No GUI, no Finder.
Logged in as root - fine.
Added a user, logged out, logged in as the new user - fine.
Logged back in as me - console only.
After panicking I did a little reading and it turns out, I didn't have my Ethernet cable plugged in all the way, so Netinfo couldn't run properly. Popped the enthernet cable in all the way, the lights on my Linksys went on, and I was able to log in normally.
THAT hurt!
Mike

NetInfo does really cool great stuff, but damn is it rough around the edges. I've had the logiin to console bug several times.
Oh, and don't get me started on changing the IP address of a Mac OS X server running a password server. Man did that ever chap my ass.
and... EH! STEVE!

Yeah, OSX Server does that every so often.
Happens to me a lot after playing around with the LDAP/NetInfo configurations and whatnot. Not really an issue, imo... it isn't exactly difficult to get out of.
