Here's a conundrum...

As an institution, we use Norton Antivirus on both platforms. A number of users do not have administrator rights on their local machines. The Mac OS X machines require authentication from an admin when LiveUpdate is run.

Is there a way I can set LiveUpdate to run as an admin user regardless of who is logged in? I seem to remember seeing this once or twice, but can not remember the incantations.

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm...
sudo chown root /path/to/LiveUpdate.app/Contents/MacOS/LiveUpdate
sudo chmod a+s /path/to/LiveUpdate.app/Contents/MacOS/LiveUpdate

This works if LiveUpdate is a Mach-O application, rather than CFM. Check by doing a
ps xww
when logged in as an admin with LiveUpdate running

Look through the output. If there's a line like
/Applications/Utilities/LiveUpdate.app/Contents/MacOS/LiveUpdate -psn_0_1441793

then you're fine. But if it appears doubled, like:
/Applications/Utilities/LiveUpdate.app/Contents/MacOS/LiveUpdate /Applications/Utilities/LiveUpdate.app/Contents/MacOS/LiveUpdate -psn_0_1441793

then it may not work.
