I've been getting consistent kernel panics every time I insert an audio CD (or at least the ones I've tried).

Anyone else seen this problem? Why could this be happening, otherwise the OS is very stable.

An update...

10.2.6 didn't help.

The disks show up fine in other G4's.

It's not all CD's, just some (but a pretty high percentage).

Could this possibly be a bad CD drive? Any other ideas?

When you say Kernel Panic - you don't mean *just* a total freeze (which is what I have with a few (not exclusively audio) cd's?

Incidentally, are these cd's that are 'copy protected'? It will say on the packaging if it is one of these...

No, this is a real KP.

Happens every time with certain discs, I've tried the same discs in two other G4's both running OSX, no problems.

These are older CD's, so no CP...the only thing funky about them is that they have tons of tracks and tons of indexes.

Do you or did you at anytime have soundjam installed on your system?

Nope. I've only had the box a couple weeks, and just standard audio apps.
