i was looking for a way to add pages to existing pdf files without distiller, when i found this little beast: joinPDF
it downloads fine, but the package doesn't install. it says that there is not enough space on the volume, although it rightly names the free space on it, which is enough. i also tried installing with root privileges, so that can't be the problem.

I get the same error. I wrote to whom I think is the author to see if he'll help. I'll post back if I get an answer.

I got it to install, can you help me figure out how to use it

To install. Start the installer, get to where you got the error last time. Hit the back button, then the install button again, and it should let you go this time, at least it did for me.

However, I have no idea what it installed or how to use it. No documentation....

I'm poking around the itext project to see if they have any answers.

I got it to work. Interestingly the order of the PDF's is opposite of that given at the itext website. So to join two pdfs 1 and 2 into result.pdf you would use:

joinPDF result.pdf 1.pdf 2.pdf

spot on! that worked.
from the missing man page i suspect there aren't any options apart from joining some given pdfs?

You may be able to dig something out of here.

http://www.lowagie.com/iText/tutorial/ch13.html#tools

or more generally here

http://www.lowagie.com/iText/

This is apparently a subset of that project, but I don't know how much of it is installed.

From the documentation it looks like the itext package is really feature packed.
