OS X (at least up to X.2.5 - haven't tried X.2.6) does not support UDF 2.0. (OS X only supports UDF 1.0 and 1.5 on DVD-RAM and DVD-RW.) Thus, DVD-RW or DVD-RAM discs recorded in the DVD-Video Recording format (which are always UDF 2.0) could not be played in OS X. However, Heuris now has a beta driver/app called DVD ConnexIT to allow this.

DVD-RAM DVD-VR is what Panasonic, Toshiba, and Samsung standalone DVD recorders use (along with DVD-R). DVD-RW DVD-VR is what Pioneer and Sony standalone DVD recorders use (also along with DVD-R).

See here.

I haven't tried it yet, but DVD ConnexIT for QuickTime is supposed to allows QuickTime to play back DVD-VR discs directly, and if you have QT Pro, you can export it the files too.

In the past I've been doing this on my PC, to get around the OS X lack of DVD-VR and UDF 2.0 support. (Panasonic bundles free Windoze software and drivers with their DVD-RAM/-RW/-R drives for this purpose.)

Hmmm... No worky for me. It seems like a QT plug-in, but there are no installed UDF 2 drivers?

No real instructions either.

Disc works fine on my PC.

Here is a message from the prez of the company:

"DVDConnexIT is not a driver for UDf 2, its an application which properly interprets the DVD-VR format, whether DVD-RAM or DVD-RW, whether Panasonic E30, HS2, T3040, or Pioneer PRV 9000.

Under OS-X, Apple has not yet update their drivers to read UDF 2.0. This means until they do, or some 3rd party does, you must someone get around this issue. Check out our newsgroup on dvd-vr to find out how. Its on our support page at www.heuris.com.

Lastly, you are missing the entire concept of DVD-Vr, by trying to access the VRO file. This software is meant to work on the index file, namely the *.IFO file. Try that file and you'll be amazed.
"

So it looks like to use this app you'll still have to do the transfer of the directory to a different disc, on a PC. eg. Stick disk in PC which has UDF 2.0 drivers installed, transfer directory to a UDF 1.5 or FAT32 disc or whatever, and then try the new disc on a Mac.

I'll give this a shot later.
