What can be the reason I cannot install from an original OS 9 CD?
Repaired permissions, Rebooted, Started up with option pressed (CD doesn't show up), choose the cd in Startup Disk (CD does show up) and then restart, but whatever I do, it searches for a while and then start again from the harddisk (OS X.2.6).
Did I forget another method or option to get it started up from the CD?
Thanks.

Are you sure the version of OS 9 on the CD supports your Mac?

If it shows up in your Startup Disk Preference Panel I expect it to support the Mac in question.

That doesn't mean it will boot your Mac. It just means that a valid system folder was found on that volume.
What version of OS 9 is on the CD?
Your Mac needs the version of 9.1 that came with it is the minimum supported version. The retail version of 9.1 does not include the necessary hardware support. Any version of 9.2.x will support it.

You are right! The cd is another retail version I guess. Anyway, now discovered I didn't include OS 9 drivers on the harddisk, so cannot install anyway. Never mind.
Will do a FireWire target mode thing.
