How do I activate SSI's in OS X ???

I am doing some minor web hosting from my OS X desktop. But, I can not get SSI's to work.

Can anyone please provide a step by step guide on how to activate server side includes in apache / OS X.

I am familar with the terminal so if someone can provide the steps to activating SSI's it would be greatly appreciated.
